Case Study - DII

The Challenge

Atlas Defence Information Infrastructure (DII)

As the MOD embarked on a demanding program to replace their outdated and diverse IT systems to the single structure DII, there was a need to create a day to day IT service that could provide 99.9% availability.

The DII would be designed to enable better communication, promote more efficient ways of working and provide greater value for money.

The scale of the challenge was enormous: 300,000 users, 150,000 terminals, 2,000 MOD locations fixed around the world with deployed and maritime platforms.

The DSSEC Solution

DSSEC provided a dynamic and adaptive team who are instrumental in the setup of production, implementation and day-to-day in-service support, including Hazard & Safety and cost analysis. DSSEC provide all the Def.Stan compliant deliverables leading to the client’s formal declaration of the In-service Support Date (ISD).

DSSEC’s personnel are influential in the production of a full suite of Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) & Availability, Reliability, Maintainability (ARM) documentation, which are tailored to various platforms within the DII program, i.e. deployed, maritime, etc.

DSSEC provide the DII with design, setup and delivery of ITIL Availability Management services, which enables senior management to focus engineering effort to improve/enhance delivery to respective service lines.

DSSEC manage and contribute to the hardware selection and obsolescence equipment lifecycle road mapping. The team provide key information to enable decisions to ensure that services continue through transitional periods.

DSSEC provide the key significant personnel to ‘roll out’ the deployed equipment and provide the fulcrum for the equipment movement and asset management, as the team are at the centre of the formal handover to the client. The team ensure the tracking of all the system assets, delivery, recording and acceptance. DSSEC have designed, implemented and managed Military Supply Chain focussed supply support/maintenance centres, capable of manufacture, triage, service and repair of all types of equipment.

DSSEC provide in-feeds to the training development teams, by creation and maintenance of the technical publication to the defence standards. This is up-issued as system architecture and procedures are changed.
